It means that microbes have become immune against the drugs used to treat infections.
This occurs as a result of the use of antibiotics. Therefore we need to avoid unnecessary use of antibiotics, e.g. to treat a common cold which is a viral infection. Your doctor knows when you need antibiotics. Do NOT use antibiotics without the advice of your doctor!
